The problem
Asia is the largest, fastest-growing streaming market in the world. India alone has over 500 million OTT users. Southeast Asia adds another 200 million. Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan push that further.
And yet, when you want to know where to watch a specific K-drama, anime, or Bollywood movie in your country, you end up doing the same broken dance: open five streaming apps in sequence, Google "where to watch X india", scroll stale blog posts, ask in a subreddit, give up.
Western tools like JustWatch and IMDb work well for Hollywood content but feel like afterthoughts in Asia - provider data is often wrong, K-drama and anime are buried, regional services like JioHotstar, Viu, iQIYI, Shahid, OSN+ and BluTV are handled poorly, and the UX wasn't designed for our streaming landscape. Worse, their ranking is global - so an Indian user searching "trending" sees the same top-50 Netflix hits as a Saudi or Japanese user, instead of locally relevant content.
The product
OTTASIA is built Asia-first, on purpose.
- →Search any movie or TV show - over a million titles across the global TMDB catalog.
- →Instantly see where to watch in your country - subscription, rent, buy, or free with ads, separated clearly. Thirty-three markets today, covering South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, the Levant, the Gulf, and MENA.
- →Discover by genre, language, or platform - K-dramas, anime, Bollywood, C-dramas, J-dramas, Thai dramas, Korean variety, and more. Country-aware everywhere.
- →Genuinely local trending - results are filtered by both origin country (where the title was produced) AND primary language, blended with global hits. So India sees Indian cinema across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Egypt sees Egyptian production. Turkey sees Turkish dramas. Not the same global top-50 rebadged with a flag.
- →Curated SEO lists - editorial best-of-2026 rankings, all-time greats, and what's currently popular on each major service.
- →Save shows to your watchlist - sign in with a one-time email code, no password. Toggle alerts to get a single email when a saved title becomes streamable in your country.
- →Free, no ads, no signup required for the core discovery experience. We don't sell your data and don't use ad trackers.
How it's built
OTTASIA is built on top of The Movie Database (TMDB), a free, community-maintained catalog of every movie and TV show ever made. TMDB also tracks which streaming services carry which titles in which countries, updated daily.
We layer a fast, modern, Asia-focused interface on top of that data, and add features TMDB doesn't: cinematic discovery, country-filtered availability, watchlists, alerts, weekly digests, and SEO-ready curated lists.
Tech stack: Next.js 15 on Netlify, Supabase for auth and data, Resend for email, TMDB for content. Built lean, shipped fast, fully serverless.
We are not affiliated with TMDB or with any streaming service. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
The story
OTTASIA started as a personal frustration. Opening five apps to figure out where to watch a single K-drama. Helping family in India find a Bollywood film that "was on Netflix last week" but mysteriously isn't today. Realising that every Asian streaming user is doing this dance - and nobody had built the discovery experience the region actually deserves.
So I did. OTTASIA is built and maintained by Anurag Tyagi, an entrepreneur and operator based in Chicago. Anurag is also Co-Founder of BrandStori.AI and Flywheelr.
Where we're going
- ·Expand into Iran, Iraq, the rest of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan), and smaller markets where streaming data improves.
- ·Personalised recommendations based on your watchlist.
- ·"What is leaving Netflix India this month", by service, by country.
- ·Native iOS and Android apps if the website finds product-market fit first.
