

Atıf Kaptan (21 May 1908 â 22 April 1977) was a Turkish film and theater actor. He began his artistic career in 1928 with the play âHamletâ at Dar-ĂŒl bedayi. That same year, he also took his first steps into cinema acting. He gained widespread acclaim for his role as âYahya Kaptanâ in the first Turkish sound film, âBir Millet Uyanıyorâ (A Nation Awakens). He founded a troupe called âKaptan Tiyatrosuâ (Captain's Theater) and toured throughout Anatolia. After leaving theater to focus on cinema, the artist starred in over 300 films.
